Lesson Plan | Needs Analysis | Resume | Victoria | Kelowna | Nagano
Christopher Peter Gradin

I am an eager, enthusiastic, and experienced ESL teacher with a passion for learning. Having been raised in a multicultural household, I have always been exposed to the difficulties of  learning English from a native Japanese perspective. I am familiar with the specific pronunciation obstacles English poses for the Japanese speaker, as well as the similarities and differences between the two orthographies.

I have developed enough Japanese listening and speaking ability to communicate most of my feelings clearly. Also, have learned to read Hiragana and Katakana, and have begun studying Kanji. This knowledge of spoken and written Japanese has been instrumental in my development as an English teacher to native Japanese speakers. With a focus on personality types and learning styles, I have created lesson plans that are thorough and adaptable to the needs of my students and/or the institution.

Why Japan?

I have always been interested in Japanese culture and language. As Japanese is my mother's native language, I have observed the challenges and process of learning English since I was a child. This extended exposure to second language learning and the difficulty that accompanies it, has given me a perspective I feel to be ideal. I taught in Nagano, Japan at English For You, a private language academy with approximately 700 students. This opportunity allowed me to apply my experiences  in a variety of group settings with both infants and adults. Japan is a beautiful country with friendly, intriguing people. During my experiences teaching English, I have gained confidence in my abilities not only as an ESL teacher, but also my ability to thrive in an international setting.
